DELL'OVO CASTLE
DELL'OVO CASTLE

It is the oldest castle in Naples and is one of the architectural elements that stand out the most in the famous panorama of the gulf. Its name comes from an ancient legend according to which the Latin poet Virgilio - who was considered a magician, in the Middle Ages - hid in the dungeons of the building an egg that kept the entire fortress standing. Due to various events that have partly destroyed the original Norman aspect, and thanks to subsequent reconstruction work of the Angevin and Aragonese period, the architectural line of the castle has changed drastically over time.
