Hero Trails - HERO Südtirol Dolomites (86 km), the last stretch

In this route you can understand what is the fatigue that HERO Südtirol Dolomites’ bikers experience in the toughest MTB race in the world.

This is the last stretch of the most demanding track, 'revised' in a 39 km long loop path that starts and ends in Selva di Val Gardena, passing by the Siusi’s Alp and the area of the Duron mountain Pass.

You will face major climbs with beautiful views, and when you think that this is only the final part of the total route, you will understand why they called it Hero.

Technical description:
The path we have done along with the HERO Südtirol Dolomites’ guides bypasses the Duron’s toughest climbs, so, although it is very tiring, you can still do it riding your bike.

There are no very technical sections, climbs and descents essentially develop on dirt roads, with a few parts in single track. The path is thus suitable for all as long as they have done a decent training, otherwise the number of stops to catch your breath will be many ...

Technical tips:
There are a few muddy parts, of course depending on the season and the rains, so you should equip yourself with proper shoes. Along the way there are places to buy food and drinks. Attention to the climate: you will reach high altitudes and cold, even in summer, is always lurking.

Points of interest

A dolomite plateau that rises to an average altitude of 1,850 m above sea level and extends between Val Gardena, the Sassolungo Group, and the Sciliar massif, it is the largest pasture area in Europe, divided into numerous grazing plots. The area is rich in infrastructure for summer and winter tourism, and thus it is an ideal destination especially for cross-country skiers. Last but not least, its bird’s eye view on the most beautiful mountains of the Dolomites group is incomparable.

Wedged between Sassopiatto and the Catinaccio mountains, the valley has an average altitude of about 2000 meters, from the Micheluzzi Refuge’s 1850 meters to Duron Pass’s 2204 meters. The Duron valley is the starting point for many hikes and walks, some also accessible by mountain bike, which wind in the Catinaccio Group, Siusi’s Alp and Sassopiatto.
