The path, for classic and skating technique, spread along the route of the former railway linking Cortina with Dobbiaco, where until 1964 operated the famous train of the Dolomites.
The 23 km long route starts at the Sport Nordic Center in Fiames, 1300 meters above sea level, and after a first section southwards it engages in the track famous thanks to the many competitions that take place here every year, like the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country skiing and the Tour de Ski. From here the route heads north, winding in stunning scenery along the massif Pomagagnon, crossing the Pezovico gallery (carved into the rock in 1918), the metal bridge over the ravine of Felizon until you reach the Cimabanche mountain pass at 1500 meters above sea level. The return to Fiames follows the same track.

Important mountain pass which marks the border between Veneto and Alto Adige and joins the Cortina valley with Val Pusteria and Dobbiaco. Historically strategic point, in the Fascist period a famous defensive barrier was built here, which was supposed to protect South Tyrol from a possible Nazi invasion from Austria. Some of these fortifications were used again after the war. Today Cimabanche is known mainly by Nordic skiing enthusiasts, along it winds up the track that connects Dobbiaco to Cortina, as well as hosting a small cross-country skiing circuit. The same ski slope, in summer, turns into the cycle path of the Dolomites.
