Skiing in Sauze D'Oulx

In High Susa’ Valley, on the slopes of Mount Genevris, there is Sauze d'Oulx. You can ski in a scenic valley between fairy tale woods, on the 400 km of slopes of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area.

It is the nearest Via Lattea ski resort to the Turin - Bardonecchia’s highway. This allows it to be reached in a short time from Milan or from Turin (only 80 km).
It is situated on a 'terrace' sheltered from the wind and with the best sun exposure. Ski mountaineering tours, hiking with snowshoes, climbing on frozen waterfalls and off-track skiing are interesting alternatives.

For after skiing: sports activities at the Sports Center, ice skating, riding club, 4 wellness centers, cinemas, arcades and 2 disco Clubs, to complete the offer of this beautiful Susa Valley’s village.

The name "Sauze" comes from "sauza", pre-Indo-European ancient word indicating a rocky place. From 1928 to 1947, because of the Fascist laws, the village was called Salice d’Ulzio, with the forced translation of "sauze" in "willow": in fact, there are no such trees in the area, nor in the eponymous area of Sauze di Cesana .

Points of interest

It is located in Jouvenceaux, a hamlet of Sauze d'Oulx, suggestively placed in the center of the old village, in a small square with a stone fountain. It is an excellent example of Susa Valley’s religious architecture, with significant elements of artistic interest such as the frescoes on the outside and inside walls, dating back to the last decades of the fifteenth century.

Placed in the territory of the municipality of the same name, a short distance from Sauze d'Oulx, the Exilles’ Fortress is one of the largest fortified structures in Susa Valley, it had a strategic position for the control and protection of the territory. It was built in the first millennium after Christ, but its present shape comes from reconstruction and modernization processes lasted for centuries. Abandoned and disfigured after the Second World War, the property was recovered as well as its high historical value: today the Fortress is part of the National Museum of the Mountain, its head office is on Cappuccini’s Mount in Turin.
