In High Susa’ Valley, on the slopes of Mount Genevris, there is Sauze d'Oulx. You can ski in a scenic valley between fairy tale woods, on the 400 km of slopes of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area.
It is the nearest Via Lattea ski resort to the Turin - Bardonecchia’s highway. This allows it to be reached in a short time from Milan or from Turin (only 80 km).
It is situated on a 'terrace' sheltered from the wind and with the best sun exposure. Ski mountaineering tours, hiking with snowshoes, climbing on frozen waterfalls and off-track skiing are interesting alternatives.
For after skiing: sports activities at the Sports Center, ice skating, riding club, 4 wellness centers, cinemas, arcades and 2 disco Clubs, to complete the offer of this beautiful Susa Valley’s village.
The name "Sauze" comes from "sauza", pre-Indo-European ancient word indicating a rocky place. From 1928 to 1947, because of the Fascist laws, the village was called Salice d’Ulzio, with the forced translation of "sauze" in "willow": in fact, there are no such trees in the area, nor in the eponymous area of Sauze di Cesana .
Sauze is one of the leading towns of the Via Lattea, definitely the biggest ski area in Piedmont. The Milky Way satisfies all levels skiers, it is in fact a very large ski area where even experienced skiers can have fun, even for a whole week.
In Sauze d'Oulx there are eight chair lifts and 4 ski lifts serving mainly medium difficulty alpine skiing slopes (34 'red', 6 'black', 17 'blue'). Among these, the Gran Pista, a nice 'red' slope that combined with other high altitude slopes, allows you to descend from Mount Fraiteve until Jovenceaux with a descent of about 9 km.
