Home » A thousand colors in the shadow of Etna
Chaotic, but always happy and smiling. This is Catania, symbolic city of Sicily. As you walk through its alleys, amidst the laundry spread out in the sun and the clamor of old comarians arguing animatedly, you can stop in front of the many street barbecues that prepare meat on a plate or tucked into an inviting, as much as burning, sandwich.
The city of the island’s most famous granitas and arancini also offers unforgettable nature excursions to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. A young and snappy city, having fun and sharing its outspoken and popular soul with everyone.
Technical description:
From the center of Catania to the top of Mount Etna: 90 km of difficult bike route suitable for trained bikers. The first part takes place in the city, walking along Via Plebiscito, among monuments, churches and typical markets. When you reach the Roman amphitheater, take Via Etnea north to exit the city and head for Etna. Continue on the provincial road to Nicolosi, where you enter Etna Park and begin the ascent to the crater on a paved road (SP92).
