Home » Along the Tiber from Umbertide to Montone
The itinerary departs from the center of Umbertide and, after traveling up the course of the Tiber for a few kilometers, moves into the hills to the east to the charming perched village of Montone, declared one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” Extraordinary views of the valleys below.
Technical description:
The route is, in fact, a continuation of the ‘Ponte Pattoli – Umbertide’ route and should be considered of medium difficulty. With the exception of the steep ascent to the village of Montone, much of the route is easily accessible and even less trained bikers, if armed with a little patience, can complete it.
The departure is from the center of Umbertide: you go up the course of the Tiber for a few kilometers to the north, then turn inland and, through secondary roads, some dirt and some asphalt, you approach from the southeast the climb to Montone, crossing the countryside. Taking a new dirt road, the difficult section of ascent to the village begins, with the last few meters being very steep. The final asphalt meters, however, make entering Montone less strenuous. After a dutiful visit to the historic center, we descend back to Umbertide from the west, pedaling through a maze of narrow streets, asphalt and dirt, until we return to the Tiber riverfront.
