Home » Ancient villages between Todi and the Martani mountains
This loop bike route starts in Todi, one of the most popular and visited towns in all of Umbria, and runs through the Tuderte hills, located between the Tiber valley and the Martani Mountains.
Technical description:
The 52-km route is of medium difficulty, with no particularly steep inclines: the only two major climbs are those leading to Collazzone and Todi.
The start is near the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione, just outside the historic center of Todi. We descend to the plains by walking the entire perimeter of the city toward Ponte Rio, located to the north, in one of the few busy sections. At Ponte Rio you cross the E45 with an underpass and head north again, taking the provincial road to Pantalla. Along the way note to the west the outline of Monte Castello di Vibio, a village famous for having the world’s smallest theater.
After 22 km we leave the road in the direction of Collepepe, beginning the climb (6 km) to Collazzone, a village situated on the top of a hill among woods, oaks and olive groves, offering a beautiful view of the Martani Mountains and the Tiber Valley.
Then head south toward San Terenziano and the small village of Frontignano, before beginning a steep and winding descent back to Ponte Rio. Here we take the road up to Todi-the same road previously taken downhill-joining the city walls.
