Description of the route
History has left clear marks among the mountains of theAsiago Plateau. Beginning with the origins of its inhabitants, who are said to be descended from ancient Cimbrians of Nordic descent. The Cimbrian language, now in disuse, is still present in the place names and nicknames of many families. Age-old rituals and customs, along with ancient legends of gnomes, fairies and other woodland creatures, fascinate visitors to the Seven Towns.
The Great War, which devastated the villages and landscapes of Asiago, is a painful experience long gone, but still perfectly tangible through the remains of thousands of trenches and fortifications and the evidence gathered in museums. Archaeological sites help add further fascination to the discovery of this unique land.
Technical description:
The loop bicycle route is of medium difficulty, entirely on road. It starts in Asiago and branches out through the villages of Gallio, Ronchi, Stoccareddo, Sasso, Rifugio Fontanelle, and Puffele to head to Mount Corno in Lusiana, where to admire the Partisan Monument and the Alpine Botanical Garden. It then descends back to Asiago via Mazzette.
There is the possibility of varying the last section of the tour, avoiding Monte Corno: at Rifugio Fontanelle follow for Turcio and, at the golf course junction, head for the Chiesetta di San Sisto, then return to Asiago via Ave.
