Home » Asiago – Villages and forests on the plateau
History has left clear marks among the mountains of theAsiago Plateau. Beginning with the origins of its inhabitants, who are said to be descended from ancient Cimbrians of Nordic descent. The Cimbrian language, now in disuse, is still present in the place names and nicknames of many families. Age-old rituals and customs, along with ancient legends of gnomes, fairies and other woodland creatures, fascinate visitors to the Seven Towns.
The Great War, which devastated the villages and landscapes of Asiago, is a painful experience long gone, but still perfectly tangible through the remains of thousands of trenches and fortifications and the evidence gathered in museums. Archaeological sites help add further fascination to the discovery of this unique land.
