The MTB route takes you through one of the wildest areas of the Cingoli area.
Mount Nero, largely covered by dense scrubland, presents itself as a striking and almost inaccessible place. On the contrary, walking its trails reveals environments of rare beauty such as the valley of San Bonfiglio (where stories of the Saint mingle with legends about the Devil), the marginal area of Serre Alte, and Pian de Conti, which offers a unique panorama.
Technical description:
From Viali Valentini in the city center, follow the signs to the Palasport and the Shooting Range, in front of which the St. Bonfiglio trail begins. A few meters of asphalt and dirt road and you will reach the ruins of the ancient church dedicated to the saint, from which, keeping to the left, after a short time you will cross the imbrecciata of Monte Nero. Turning left, the ascent to the mountain begins: past a steep first part, the trail becomes flat and then climbs again to the clearing of Pian del Tino (596 meters).
Pedal on the path that enters the forest to the right, first level then slightly uphill (slippery if wet), to arrive at a small clearing and turn right onto the track that descends into the wooded valley below. The descent is challenging, with difficult walls and tight turns. Upon reaching a hump and a small watering hole, the trail continues straight and level but, after a few dozen meters, the slope becomes steep again. Coming out of the forest, you continue to descend and the rough terrain becomes more technical. The downhill ends on a paved road that, taken to the left, leads to the very hard climb that reaches the St. Christopher junction.
We then walk along the Serre Alte trail, a small ‘pearl’ of the Cingolo area. The track climbs gradually for two hundred meters of elevation gain and, after a last climb, descends for a few meters to a fork: here turn left onto the double track that starts climbing again and reaches the locality Madonna di Pian dei Conti.
Continuing on asphalt to the left, in less than two kilometers you arrive at the motocross field. Past the underpass, proceeding to the right, we return to Cingoli in restful descent.
