A harmonious fusion of the Marche coast and hinterland, moving from the first cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea to the rolling hills of Montefeltro. Between history and natural beauty.
This fascinating ride is on not-too-demanding ups and downs, set in a tranquil and “romantic” landscape, dominated by the Castle of Gradara, home to the eternal love affair of Paolo and Francesca.
The route also leads to the discovery of important coastal realities such as Cattolica and Pesaro, passing through the scenery of Monte San Bartolo Park, a protected area much loved by cyclists and hikers.
Itinerary featured in the Guidebook Viatoribus: “Italia in Bici con Gusto”
Itinerary description:
The loop route is 48 km long, starting and finishing at Gabicce Mare.
From the village follow the signs for Gradara. Skirting Cattolica, after about 2.5 km the first climb (2 km) with accessible gradients begins, arriving at the foot of Gradara Castle. Once the visit to the medieval village is over, take the main road again in the direction of Tavullia: here the track climbs steadily for about 5 km, with non-prohibitive gradients.
Arriving in the locality of Monteluro, take the left at the fork following the signs for Pesaro: thus begins the descent that passes through the hamlets of Babbucce, Tre Ponti and Case Bruciate.
Atthe end of this stretch, in the “Pesaro Fiera” area, continue in the direction of the historic center. From Baia Flaminia, after passing through the urban fabric of Pesaro (watch out for traffic), the undulating Monte San Bartolo scenic road begins (about 25 km), ending exactly at Gabicce Monte, passing through the quaint villages of Santa Marina Alta, Fiorenzuola di Focara and Casteldimezzo.
From Gabicce Monte, the last downhill section leads back to the sea of the Riviera.
