A true mix of artistic, historical and cultural heritage, Verona is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Universally known for the dramatic love story of Romeo and Juliet, the city preserves a considerable amount of works and monuments important from the historical-artistic point of view, which highlight the different eras lived by the city.
The Old Town has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its architecture and for its urban structure, romantic and charming, with its bridges over the river Adige, the wonderful palaces, the historical squares and the evocative atmosphere of its alleys.
Our bike tour goes hunting for some of these excellences, crossing places rich in history, cycling along the two sides of the Adige River to discover the more ecologic soul of Verona.
Description of the route:
The bicycle will be waiting for us in Piazza Brà, the fulcrum of life in the town, near the majestic Arena. After a short stretch along the Adige, passing alongside the famous Bridge of Castelvecchio, the path leads to Piazza San Zeno and the homonymous Romanesque basilica.
Back on the banks of the river, you will cross over the Ponte Catena, proceeding first slightly out of the old town then back inside, passing near the beautiful Lombroso Park. A cycle and pedestrian stretch starts here, along the Adige, where you will reach the Church of San Giorgio in Braida and the one of Santo Stefano.
You will then cross again the Adige on the evocative Ponte Pietra, towards the alleys of the centre. You will go through places of internationally renowned like the Church of Sant'Anastasia, Piazza delle Erbe and Juliet's House; then, heading east, you will cross the new bridge and leave the centre.
At Porta Vescovo you will leave the bike, returning again to the old town along the monumental cemetery on one side, and the university pole on the other. After crossing the Adige, you will quickly return to the Arena and to the starting point.
