Home » From Vicenza along the Via Romea Vicetia Strata
The Romea Strata is an ancient pilgrimage route traveled over the centuries by faithful eager to get to Rome and then on to Jerusalem.
The proposed stage starts in Vicenza-the land of Palladio par excellence-and from the city center we move southward to Barbarano Vicentino.
Along the way you can see some of the famous architect’s most beautiful and important buildings and the ancient Venetian walls erected to safeguard the city.
Toward the middle of the itinerary, in skirting the Berici Hills, it is possible to distinguish, perched on a slope, the ancient Hermitage of San Cassiano. It is also possible to guess the ancient genesis of the hill district, which at this height shows itself to be an ancient cliff.
The arrival at San Pancrazio, an ancient monastery, occurs after a short climb.
The route runs on a bicycle path that traces the ancient route of the local train that served the towns of the lower Vicenza area.
