High Nature Trail – MULTITAPPA
The Alta Via No. 2 (or Alta Via Naturalistica) leads from Courmayeur to Donnas in the exceptional setting of Gran Paradiso National Park and Mont Avic Regional Park in Valle d’Aosta.
The itinerary follows the orographic right of the Dora Baltea River and is divided into 14 daily stages within everyone’s reach, along well-mapped and fully marked trails that take an average of 3 to 5 hours to walk, offering a variety of rest stops such as campgrounds, bivouacs, shelters and hotels. Passable in the summer months, the route descends, almost at each stage, to the valley floor where it is possible to take advantage of services in the villages or break the journey with a bus return.
In the nature still intact middle and high mountains (the average elevation is 2000 m. with peaks of 3000 m.), the Alta Via winds through wilderness areas from the picturesque landscapes, where running chamois, herds of ibex or golden eagles in flight can be seen among forests, meadows and stony ground. The inhabited areas traversed offer the opportunity to discover the ancient origins of Valle d’Aosta traditions and handicrafts and where to sample local products.
