This MTB route starts from the summit of Alpe Palù – in upper Valmalenco – and combines the beautiful views of the Alpe with the enchanting scenery of the high altitude alpine lake of the same name.
Lake Palù is swimmable, albeit cold, so not everyone goes into the water, although on sunny days in summer there is no shortage of daredevils!

To get to Palù Lake, one can take the cable car from Chiesa in Valmalenco and then descend to the lake along well-maintained trails in the area.
However, the return to the cable car is challenging because there are steep climbs-although not technical-so it is only good for trained people. In case, having an e-bike can solve the problem!
Alternatively, you can descend along the dirt road and then return from the paved road back to the valley, thus making an all-day route that is suitable for everyone. However, the dirt road has somewhat steep downhill sections and the inexperienced may get scared, however, you can get off and walk your bike; just don’t be in a hurry and take your time for a long ride.

Technical tips:
Cycling at high altitude involves the need to gear up for the possible change in weather in a short time. All it takes is a cloud to greatly reduce temperatures, and even light rain can be difficult to sustain without proper equipment.
