Mount Conero is a truly picturesque place. Each of its vantage points overlooks the coast that stretches from Portonovo to Sirolo; the sea is blue and the beaches white.
Especially on the mountain there are beautiful rides and there are mountain bike trails of all types, from the more leisurely free ride to the more aggressive enduro.
Technical description:
The loop trail begins with a fairly challenging climb : it is only to be taken with a good degree of fitness, although it has no particularly technical points and is mostly on dirt road, only in the second part does it become single track.
However, the climb is relatively short (about 3-4 km), with wet ground it becomes a bit slippery due to the presence of rocks, but under normal conditions it is almost all rideable. Only in some places is it necessary to carry your bike on foot if you do not have some mountain biking experience.
When you reach the end of the first part, you can admire the splendid view offered by a natural terrace overlooking Portonovo. We then ascend to the highest Belvedere and finally descend to go to the Badia di San Pietro where one can stop and have lunch in the two bar-restaurants located at the foot of the former Convent that has now become a Hotel.
The descent back to the starting point is quite technical, although not difficult for those who already have experience on mountain bikes. Protective gear is still recommended.
NB: For those with little experience in technical descents and a low level of training, we recommend that you go up to the Convent using the state road and then go only downhill, but using the dirt road that we took uphill in our route.
Route type: loop
Length: 11 km
Height difference in ascent: 600 m
Downhill elevation gain: 600 m
Highest point: 626 m
Lowest point: 118 m
Type of surface: dirt road
Technical tips:
There are many walkable trails, they are all quite technical so protections are useful. No water sources are encountered along the climb, however, when you arrive at the Badia there are bars, so it is not necessary to carry so much weight with you.
In case of wet terrain, those who are trained may decide to go up the single track in the forest, the dirt road is in fact very rocky and slippery.
