Home » On the summit of Mount Sparrowhawk
From the soft east ridge of Timpone di Bardisce this trekking route leads to the summit of Mount Sparrowhawk, named after the bird of prey of the same name.
Here the view ranges from the sea to the highest peaks of the Pollino National Park, with an overview of the varied Calabrian-Lucanian orography. This area is an ideal habitat for the Italic wolf, which is very rare to spot, but during the winter it is easy to find traces of its passage in the snow.
The return route crosses a vast plateau with a natural pond and stone shelter always open to wayfarers, following a pleasant path between fir and beech trees, which coexist here in perfect symbiosis. We are in the middle of the Lagoforano forest, where a cool fountain offers refreshment.
This trail is also made unique by the presence of a vast acereta with several species of maple trees (lesser maple, sycamore maple, Neapolitan maple, Hungarian maple, and field maple) and a dense vegetation of alders and oaks.
