Selva is the last and most famous town in Val Gardena. It is situated at 1500 m. of altitude and it is an obligatory point of passage for those who want to walk the Sellaronda, which passes right by the center of the village, between houses and hotels.
Children can learn to ski while having fun in the snow in the fenced park of the Selva ski school. The ski area is well connected to the west with the nearby Santa Cristina and to all the Val Gardena. To the east it borders Colfosco and Corvara in Alta Badia and to the south, Campitello di Fassa and Canazei, in the province of Trento.
At the end of February in Selva passes the Sellaronda Ski Marathon, a mountaineering ski race at night which takes place around the massif of Sella. The pairs of participants must climb the four Dolomite passes Sella, Gardena, Campolongo and Pordoi for a vertical drop of 2700 meters uphill, along a 42 km long path.
For cross-country ski lovers, a slope starts from the Carabineers sports center and leads within the Vallunga for 12 km. In the hamlet ‘La Selva’ there is also a 2 km shorter slope.
The houses divide into two parts the ski area: on one side the thrilling slopes under the Dantercepies cable car that climbs up to Gardena Pass, on the other side slopes that go down from the Ciampinoi and the Sella Pass. Very technical and fast those that descend from Ciampinoi, quieter and simpler the ones that come down from the Sella.
The Selva ski resort (a cable car, 2 cable cabins, 16 chair lifts and 13 ski lifts) is decidedly modern and tends to reduce the waiting time of the large number of skiers who use it.
