A 65-kilometer loop for mountain bikers. From Casale Monferrato, a city of art, to the goldsmith stores of Valenza, it traverses the Piedmontese rice fields of the Po River plain and the foothills of Monferrato.
Technical description:
The route runs in a loop, on back roads and easy dirt tracks, starting from Casale Monferrato and proceeding south, following the Po, to Valenza and back.
Leaving the art center of Casale Monferrato, follow the provincial road to Frassineto Po, where you begin to become familiar with the vast expanses of corn, wheat and rice.
Then continue in the direction of Valmacca, where you can admire the beautiful medieval palace in the central square. Leaving the village behind, we continue on to Rivalba, then Pomaro-with its medieval castle-and then Monte Valenza, where we arrive after facing a short but steep climb.
Here you can admire the panorama of the Monferrato hills and the Po plain below.
We then arrive in Valenza, a town famous for its goldsmith stores. At this point one can return to Casale by train or via another route (partly unpaved) by bicycle, which leads from Valenza to Fosseto, Giarole and Occimiano, surrounded by rice fields and herons.
On the Lanza Canal consortium road, on a dirt road of about 10 kilometers, we return to Casale Monferrato.
