Home » The Rocca della Verruca: hike in the Monti Pisani
The Rocca della Verruca was the site of bloody battles between the Florentines and the Pisans during the Middle Ages and stands on the rocky outcrop called precisely Monte Verruca, because of the curious shape with which it stands out from the mountain line.
This loop hiking route, rich in natural and historical beauty, leads to the Rocca, from which there is a magnificent view of the Pisan plain and the Arno Valley.
We start from the town of Calci, which amazes with its incredible Certosa Monumental, a former Carthusian monastery located in Val Graziosa, on the slopes of the Monti Pisani. From here we climb gently among olive trees and small vegetable gardens until we reach the village of Montemagno, and then leave the country roads, which give way to forest roads.
You pass through fantastic pine forests that lead to the entrance of the path to the castle, which is reached with one last short climb.
