3rd ROUTE: Grizzana Morandi – Castiglione dei Pepoli (21 km)
The third leg of the trek along the Via della Lana e della Seta is still all within the province of Bologna, joining the towns of Grizzana Morandi and Castiglione dei Pepoli.
This is a very scenic route that stretches into theBolognese Apennines through lands once inhabited by the ancient Etruscans.
In this stage, too, we encounter obvious traces that call to mind some sad events of World War II.
Technical description:
The third stage is shorter than the previous one and also less challenging.
The route on the Wool and Silk Road starts from Grizzana Morandi, continuing along the scenic ridge between the Reno and Setta valleys, along the ancient Etruscan route that once connected the centers of Kainua (today Marzabotto) and Gonfienti (today Prato).
Between ups and downs we arrive at Burzanella where the climb begins, leading to the highest point of the route (933 m.) near Mount Fontanavidola (km 15). From here the last stretch starts, reaching the final finish line in Castiglione dei Pepoli, after a quick passage to nearby Lake Santa Maria.

Technical tips:
Required to wear technical hiking clothing. Bring a rain/wind jacket, hat and sunglasses, sunscreen and at least 2.5L of water.

The Via della Lana e della Seta (Wool and Silk Road ) is a path that connects two cities that share an important manufacturing history, Bologna and Prato, in a trekking itinerary that allows you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of theTuscan-Emilian Apennines.
The route goes through hamlets, Apennine valleys and passes, joining two cities of great historical value, which have also grown over the centuries thanks to the wise management of their “waters”: Bologna, the city of the Reno and its many channels, the silk capital for centuries, and Prato, the city of the Grasshopper, of gore and gualchiere, capital of the wool and textile district.
The entire route is 130 km long and is divided into 6 daily stages.
