Easy
This 12.6-kilometer loop hike leads to the discovery of one of the most characteristic places in the Dolomites, the Sassopiatto rock group between Val Gardena and Val di Fassa.
SALT
From the Sella Pass Refuge (2,180 m) take the gondola up to the Forcella del Sassolungo (2,679 m), a refuge open in summer.
DISCESA
We cautiously walk down the opposite slope (trail 525) to Rifugio Vicenza al Sassolungo (2,256 m, open in summer), descending a little further to the junction with trail 527 (2,014 m).
HIGHWAY
Proceeding westward, go around the Sassopiatto on a level path at the edge of the forest and on grassy slopes, touching Piz da Uridl (2,109 m).
We then continue south, arriving in two hours at the Sassopiatto Refuge – Ütia de Sas Plat, already on the Fassa side (2,300 m, open in summer).
On the Friedrich August Trail (4/557), advancing eastward through pastures and steep slopes with ditches, and touching on the two private shelters Sandro Pertini (2,300 m) and Friedrich August (2,298 m), we arrive at Furcela Rodela (2,318 m).
Finally, touching two more refuges (Piz Grohmann and Valentini), we return by small road to the starting point.
