Home » Two wheels in the city: Pescara, summer by the sea
A bike tour of Abruzzo’s capital city, discovering the old town center, green spaces and beautiful waterfront.
Pescara is the hometown of the “Poeta Vate” Gabriele D’Annunzio, an Italian symbol of aestheticism, who always loved and remained attached to his homeland.
What better starting place for this bicycle itinerary to discover the capital of Abruzzo than from the Museum “Birthplace of Gabriele D’Annunzio”?
Technical description:
From Corso Manthoné, in the heart of Pescara Vecchia, quickly take the bicycle path that crosses the Pescara River over the Ennio Flaiano Bridge and heads toward the historic center.
We then wander through the alleys, arriving at Piazza Salotto, the nerve center of downtown. Cycling north on Castellammare Adriatico Street, we leave the center, passing the beautiful Villa Sabucchi Park.
Proceeding nonstop on the long tree-lined avenue, we skirt the entire Santa Filomena Pine Forest, which separates the road from the sea and is State Nature Reserve.
Arriving near Montesilvano, at the height of the Villa Verrocchio gardens, turn right toward the sea to take the beautiful cycle path that runs along it.
The return route winds entirely by proceeding south along the waterfront, encountering important sights such as the Cascella Ship and the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art. The route ends at the winding Ponte del Mare, overlooking the ancient Roman port and its famous “trabocchi.”
