Home » Two Wheels in the City: Rome, the Obelisks Tour.
Rome, a unique city in the world. To discover the historical, artistic and cultural beauties that lurk in every corner of our Capital, what could be better than a healthy bike ride through the city center?
This 16-kilometer thematic itinerary traverses many of the city’s landmarks, including squares, streets and public parks, following a representative thread: the “hunt” for the thirteen ancient obelisks scattered throughout the city.
In fact, Rome is the city that preserves the largest number of obelisks in the world.
The route starts from theFlaminian Obelisk in Piazza del Popolo and returns there, after reaching in order: Vatican Obelisk (St. Peter’s Square), Agonal Obelisk (Piazza Navona), Solar Obelisk (Montecitorio Square), Macutean obelisk (Pantheon), Minerva Obelisk (Minerva Square), Matteian Obelisk (Villa Celimontana), Lateran Obelisk (Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano), Liberian Obelisk (Esquiline Square), Dogali Obelisk (via Terme di Diocleziano), Quirinal Obelisk, Sallustian Obelisk (Trinità dei Monti) and Pincio Obelisk.
N.B: Due to the busy nature of many roads, it is advisable to take this tour on Sundays or at least on holidays, when even passing the short sections on the wrong side of the road does not pose particular risks or difficulties.
