Home » Two wheels in the city: the Milan with a green heart
Milan, Italy’s main economic, financial and industrial center. Milan, European capital of design and fashion. But also “green” Milan, with its historic parks, numerous private and public gardens and the water of the Navigli.
This bike tour enters the “green” heart of the Lombard capital, reaching several green areas in the historic center and developing almost entirely on bike paths.
Technical description:
The 14-kilometer route is looped and starts from the Triennale exhibition venue inside Simplon Park. It then unfolds counterclockwise “circumnavigating” the historic center, initially passing by some of the city’s public parks: from the Gardini Renata Tebaldi to the Guido Vergani Gardens, until it laps the large Don Luigi Giussani Park.
From here we head straight for the Naviglio Grande, passing through the small Muccioli Gardens and Bazzega Padovani. Following the course of the Naviglio you arrive at Porta Ticinese, from which you enter the heart of the historic center by flanking the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio and crossing the beautiful Pope John II Park.
Heading northeast up the major thoroughfares of Via Santa Sofia and Via Francesco Sforza (pedaling between the Università degli Studi on one side and the Guastalla Gardens on the other) we finally reach San Babila.
The last part of the route passes through the hub of Milan’s historic center, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza Duomo, continuing on Via Dante to Castello Sforzesco. A final ride around the entire Simplon Park brings us back to the starting point.
ATTENTION: The route is entirely on a bicycle path, except for two short sections: Via Mascheroni (just out of Parco Sempione along Via XX Settembre) and Via Foppa (at the corner with Giardini Don Luigi Giussani).
