Home » Two wheels in the city: Verona, the eternal romantic
A true concentration of artistic, historical and cultural evidence, Verona is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Known for hosting the dramatic love story of Romeo and Juliet, the Scaliger city preserves a remarkable amount of historically and artistically important works and monuments that clearly highlight the different eras the city has experienced.
The historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture and urban structure, which is romantic and charming, with its bridges over the Adige River, wonderful palaces, historic squares, and the charming atmosphere of its alleys.
Our bike tour goes precisely on the hunt for some of these city excellences, passing through places rich in history, pedaling along both banks of the Adige River to discover even the most “green” Verona.
Technical Description:
You strap on your bicycle in Brà Square, the hub of city life, in the shadow of the majestic Arena. After a short stretch along the Adige River, passing alongside the famous Castelvecchio Bridge, the route leads to Piazza San Zeno and the Romanesque basilica of the same name.
Back on the banks of the river, we cross it over the Catena Bridge, proceeding first slightly out of the historic center then back in, caressing the beautiful Lombroso Park. A bicycle-pedestrian section along the Adige River begins from here, where you pedal to reach the Church of San Giorgio in Braida and the Church of Santo Stefano.
We then cross the Adige River again on the striking Stone Bridge, pointing toward the alleys of the center. We pass internationally renowned sites such as the Church of St. Anastasia, Piazza delle Erbe, and Juliet’s House, then head east, passing over the New Bridge and leaving the center.
At Porta Vescovo we rejoin the bicycle pathway, heading back toward the historic center again, skirting the Monumental Cemetery on one side and the University Pole on the other. Having crossed the Adige for the last time, the ride quickly returns to the Arena and the starting point.
