Home » Valmalenco by E-bike
Valmalenco is still fairly unknown to mass tourism; it is mostly visited by people living in the Sondrio-Milan area. It is adjacent to the better-known Valtellina but also offers beautiful views and is close to several glaciers that can also be reached on foot.
This E-Bike tour among the peaks of Valmalenco starts in Caspoggio with an initial stretch on asphalt, then comes out on a nice dirt road that runs along the Mallero stream, with small waterfalls and very scenic water jumps.
At a certain point you leave the river and start to climb on a dirt road, with some steep sections, toward Palù Lake. Once here, we recommend stopping and having lunch; if you wish, the more daring can also take a swim although the water is that of a high-altitude lake: many people dive because it is not freezing cold during summer periods.
Once we set off again, we climb to Alpe Palù, where a series of beautiful alpine views open up, until we reach the dam and reservoir of Campo Moro.
The tour travels through some valleys and opens to very wide views of several peaks all very beautiful. Rivers, lakes, alpine mountains and very rich vegetation will keep you company throughout the tour, which even if done on an E-Bike is still challenging, not so much for the technical part as for the elevation changes you have to deal with.

Technical tips:
The ride is not particularly technical, however, it is certainly not suitable for everyone because there are many challenging climbs. Even if done on an E-Bike, a good amount of training is required.
When you arrive at Palù Lake, you can stop for lunch because there are agritourisms and other eateries in the area. The part after the lake, however, for quite some time is in the forest and there are no other refreshment points, so it pays to bring some energy bars.
The return from the Campo Moro reservoir is on a paved road, it is busy only in August however care should be taken.
As always, when cycling at high altitude you need to be equipped for drastic changes in temperature and weather, so it is always helpful to bring something to shelter from the rain and cold.
