This 12.6 km long loop path hiking leads to the discovery of one of the most characteristic place of the Dolomites, the rocky group of Sassopiatto, between Val Gardena and Val di Fassa.
ASCENT: from Refuge Passo Sella (2,180 m) up in the cable car to Forcella Sassolungo (2,679 m), mountain refuge open in summer
DESCENT: you go down on foot, with prudence, on the opposite slope (trail 525), to the Refuge Vicenza al Sassolungo (2,256 m, open in summer), going down a little further to the junction with the trail 527 (2,014 m).
HIGH WAY: going west, you walk around the Sassopiatto on a flat trail, to the edge of the forest and on grassy slopes, touching the Piz da Uridl (2,109 m).
The path continues towards south, arriving in two hours at the Refuge Sassopiatto - Ütia Plat de Sas, already on the Fassa side (2,300 m, open in summer).
On the Friedrich August path (4/557), going eastward through pastures and steep slopes with ditches, and passing by the two private refuges Sandro Pertini (2,300 m) and Friedrich August (2,298 m), you get to Furcela Rodela (2,318 m).
Finally, passing by other two refuges (Piz Grohmann and Valentini) you go back on a small road to the starting point.
